I am so excited to reveal the Pantone Color of the Year 2014, because it’s one that I’ve been drawn to for quite some time now. There’s something about it’s energy, radiance, and “pop” that make it a fun color to wear in almost any ensemble.
Each year Pantone “marks” the following year with a color. They have “color pull” when it comes to forecasting colors to many industries (even outside of fashion) including home design, graphic design, and beauty. For me, I always take into consideration what the colors forecast is for each season, as well as yearly, but I find that sometimes these colors become “washed” by what’s worn in Street Fashion. So much of trends we rock & recognize comes from the “bottom up”, which is why I provide my daily Trend Alerts for you guys. Trends and style are not just from one source anymore. Inspiration and trend is, most literally, everywhere!
Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute™ Leatrice Eiseman described their selected Color of the Year, Radiant Orchid, as the following:
- Just the Name Gives You an Idea of How Radiant it Is
- It Has a Beautiful Sheen to it
- It’s an Intriguing, Exotic Color
- It’s a Color that Encourages Us to Innovate
- Purple Is a Magical Color – Encourages Creativity and “Draws You In”
- Very Complex Color: Purple family with Pink Undertones (Fuschia, Hot Pink)

Shout out to Lane Bryant for having such an amazing designer and buyer team that already picked out the color for past pieces! I cannot believe how many pieces I already own of this color (or in the color family) that are from Lane Bryant – 3 out of 4.
Here are some pieces I could already find of this fabulous color in my wardrobe (yes, I had the “itch” already and had purchased some pieces in Radiant Orchid, or at least within the same color family):
How to Rock Radiant Orchid
As you can tell in my outfit above, I think the best pairings are ones of neutral or classic nature – blacks, browns, tans, whites or any shade of jeans. This way the focus is on the color itself, and it also helps really create an overall chic update for your neturals/classics. You can also pair it with garments in the same color family to give an interesting, very put together overall look.
What do you think about the Color of the Year for 2014: Radiant Orchid?
